About
The Midkota School District serves the communities of Binford, Glenfield, Grace City, McHenry and Sutton. Our district was formed as a result of declining enrollment, projected reductions in staff, programs and services, and cost/ineffectiveness in program/service delivery and facility usage in the early 1990’s in the Binford, Glenfield-Sutton-McHenry and Grace City schools. The onset of the combined Midkota Consortium was the 1991-92 school year, operating an elementary school in Binford and Grace City, Junior High in McHenry and Senior High in Glenfield. The following year the schools in Grace City and McHenry were closed. This arrangement remains today. The districts geographic area is approximately 600 square miles. The Midkota School Board is comprised of seven members, two members representing each of the Consortium’s member districts and one member at large. We employ approximately 28 full and part-time staff members. We have an excellent teacher to student ratio allowing for individual attention as well as the opportunity for out-of-classroom experiences from local fields trips to Foreign Language class trips to Europe. An After-School Program is offered and available to both Elementary and High School students that includes tutoring help as well as fun educational activities. We are part of the Central Dakota Telecommunications Consortium (CDTC) that works with other Interactive Television (ITV) systems across the state offering a large number of High School classes as well as dual credit classes. Our juniors and seniors have the opportunity to register for up to 21 college credit hours, some offered locally from Midkota Teachers and some over ITV. As you can see the Midkota School District has afforded our students possibilities, programs/services and extra-curricular opportunities that didn’t seem possible with our individual school districts back in the early 90’s. Our Midkota School District Mission Statement is “All Children will learn in a Challenging and Nurturing Environment” and we strive to carry this out each and every day.
