The proposed drain is a hypolimnetic drawdown structure for Spiritwood Lake to improve its water quali- ty. The watercourse into which the water will be drained is approx- imately 250 feet to the southeast from the water control structure which is within the Southeast Quarter of Section 31, Township 142, Range 62, Stutsman County, North Dakota. Any drainage will follow Spiritwood Lake's natural drainage to Alkali Lake and then through the Seven Mile Coulee into the James River.
